Simple Ways to Avoid Conflict with the Landlord
Published on Sunday, 10 January 2010 Some people say that they can not avoid conflicts with their landlords. Misunderstanding with the landlord may seem inevitable for some. But there are ways to avoid such conflicts so you can establish a harmonious and professional relationship with your landlord. First of all, before you sign the lease contract, make it a point to inspect the entire apartment in the presence of the landlord. Check the faucets, heating systems, lights, and appliances. If you discover defective fixtures or appliances in the apartment, then the landlord will not be able to accuse you of causing the damage. It is very important also to check if the apartment is infested with cockroaches, rats and bugs. Look under the sink and other hidden areas to find out if there are nasty crawling creatures in the apartment. The landlord should know about this and fix the problem for you. You need to check the doors, windows, and fire escape to see if they are vulnerable. Ask the landlord if the locks have been replaced. Damaged windows are security threats so these should be fixed before your sign the lease contract. Lastly, put every agreement in writing. A written agreement is a good tool to avoid misunderstanding and conflict with your landlord.
