Packing Lamps and Lampshades: A List of Dos and Don'ts
Published on Thursday, 25 February 2010 Having troubles packing your lamps and lampshades? Here are some basic Do's and Don'ts you can use to get those delicate things packed properly. Do's: 1. Remove harp and light bulb before packing. 2. Put necessary cushions and place them at the bottom of the box. 3. Buy specialty boxes that are appropriately sized to your lampshade to ensure that your lamps and shades are secured. 4. Pack the lamp itself with bubble wrap and brown paper pads. 5. Box delicate shades individually for protection. 6. Seal the box with packing tape and label it as ‘fragile' or ‘this end up' 7. Use plenty of packing paper on the top, sides and bottom of the box when attempting to pack multiple lamps. 8. Place lamp boxes in an upright position in the truck. Don'ts 1. Never pack the lamp and its shade in the same box. 2. Don't wrap lampshades with newsprint. The print may rub off and may cause unwanted prints in your lamp. 3. Using inappropriately sized containers to pack lamps will cause shifting and will damage the lamps. 4. Do not pack wadded up paper around the lampshade as this can potentially crush the shade. 5. Don't pack anything else with lampshades. 6. Don't stack anything on top of the box.
